Star Wars Reads is back for 2026! 


Join us for an afternoon packed with activities! Learn the ways of the Force, practice your saber skills, find your bounty, and make your own [pool noodle] lightsaber! And last but not least...enter your name for one of our door prizes!

The Friends of the Library will also be setting up a sale table!

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a musical adventure! Join our special guests from Kingwood Arts Academy of Music as children clap, tap, sing, and move to the exciting rhythms of Cuba. Participants will explore the lively sounds of Cuban music, discover the importance of the clave rhythm, and enjoy an interactive experience filled with music, movement, and hands-on fun. This engaging program celebrates the rich traditions of Hispanic culture while fostering cultural awareness, curiosity, and a sense of community through the universal language of music.

Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies is a FREE literacy program that pairs trained teen volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in K-3rd grade (Little Buddies) for 10 weeks to share the joy of reading. More information can be found on our website.

The next session for the South Houston Branch Library will run from September 8 - November 10, 2026. The Buddies will meet on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM.

Join us as we explore the various animal groups on planet Earth!  We will learn about their environments, adaptations and evolution and create a one of a kind work of art that features that animal group. In September we will learn all about Mammals!

This program is for children ages 7-12 and their parent/caregiver. Registration is required and begins one week in advance. Only the child needs to register.

Recommended for school-age children ages 5-12.

Tickets are required for all programs unless otherwise noted. They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program begins at the Children’s Information Desk. Tickets are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Book Buddies is a free program that brings children and volunteers together to share the joy of reading. For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week in the afternoon for 45 minutes of one-on-one shared reading.
