Join Express Children's Theater for a shy dinosaur sees help from her friends and the audience to overcome her shyness, highlighting the importance of courage and confidence.

Tickets are required for all programs unless otherwise noted. They are free and available 30 minutes before the program begins in the Children’s Department. The tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lines for the tickets sometimes form before the tickets are distributed. Tickets can run out very quickly, so please plan accordingly.

Join us at the library for the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion's Instrument Petting Zoo, powered by Ovintiv. During the program kids will have the chance to get up close and personal with the musical instruments they see professionally played on stage. Various instruments, including ukeleles, violins and drums are set up for the kids to touch, hold and play. We will start with a 30-minute reading featuring Classical Sing Move Play-an interactive story time opportunity performed by a trained Houston Grand Opera artist!

Get creative this summer at the library! Join us for a fun-filled arts and crafts program led by the wonderful mother & daughter volunteers from the National Charity League. Children will enjoy hands-on projects, creativity, and summer fun in this program designed especially for elementary school-aged kids. All supplies provided.  No registration required.  This program is for children ages 5-11 years old.

Join us to create one of a kind cyanotype prints, a special kind of blue photo that is developed by the power of the sun and made with materials that will give your creation a prehistoric twist!

This program is for kids ages 7-12 and is limited to 10 children. Registration is required and begins one week in advance.

Join us for Let's Build It! this summer. The library will provide the Legos, Duplos, Magna-Tiles, Lincoln Logs, Big Blue Blocks, Straw Connectors and more.  We will have free play and organized team challenges. 

All materials must stay at the library, but you are welcome to photograph your creations. Please leave your own Legos and other building toys at home. We don't want you to lose your favorite pieces!

This program is intended for children aged 5-12 years old.

A guest from Commissioner Tom Ramsey's office will read The Little Blue Truck Makes a Friend by Alice Schertle.

For: Pre-School & Elementary (ages 3 to 10 years old).  Younger siblings may participate with the active support of a parent or caregiver as long as they do not disrupt the program.

When you discover a mysterious suitcase filled with expedition tools, you’ll use your imagination and senses to search for dinosaur fossils! Journey through the jungle, dig for bones at an excavation site, rescue dinosaurs from tar pits, and collect dino eggs—just be careful of the earth-shaking volcano! Presented by Brave Little Company.

Ready to become a Pokémon Trainer? Join us for a Pokemon Workshop, where you can learn how to play the Pokemon card game, play some practice battles, and even take home a starter deck! 

Cards will be provided. This program is for all ages.
