Join us for a free class to help you prepare for your naturalization interview and civics test. You must complete an English placement assessment to join the class. Taking this class will not grant citizenship or pay for any application fees. Registration is required as space is limited.
Join us on the first and third Thursdays of the month at Inklings, our teen creative writing club. Bring your writing to share and get feedback from other teens. Any kind of writing is welcome, from short stories to fanfiction, poetry to novels! This program is open to ages 12-17, 18 if in high school. Email virginia.gonzalez@hcpl.net for more information.
This class will introduce Canva, an online graphic design platform. Come learn how to make designs for everything from bookmarks to presentations! Basic familiarity with computers (turning on the computer, using the mouse, basic typing, using the internet) is required. Creating a free Canva account at canva.com beforehand is recommended but not required. You will need your own account in order to participate. Registration is required, register @ hcpl.net.
Join us for 30 minutes of story time for our youngest library users! Our “Little Readers” program is for children 0 to 5 years old and their caregivers. Little Readers features books, stories, songs, movements and group play time. Come and develop your child’s early literacy skills in this fun environment.

Come and join us in person for 30 to 45 minutes of gaming fun! Our "After School Boardom" is geared for elementary school age children and their caregivers. This game time includes classic board games, video games and other activities, and it is free to attend. You are always welcome to bring your own games to share in a friendly competition.

Please dress to get messy! This event is free to attend and all materials will be provided. Each session requires a free ticket for kids in attendance. Promotes early literacy skills. The program features reading, singing, talking, writing and playing. We will help give you the resources you need to expand your child’s skills, preparing them to read. Recommended for children ages 2-5 years, it features age appropriate stories, songs, and fingerplays. Story time is an excellent way to bond with your child, boost their vocabulary, and hopefully raise a lifelong reader. Studies have shown that regularly reading to your child can increase their attention span, boost their emotional intelligence, and flex their imagination.
