During the summer, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) teams up with Harris County Public Library to introduce children and their parents to great art and children’s literature. Each week-long Summer Art Camp pairs a book with a work of art and features related discussions and art-making activities at six different library locations. At the end of the week children and parents visit the museum via a charter bus to view original works of art and create their own masterpieces in the museum’s studio, led by an MFAH teaching artist and staff.

On Friday, the last day of the camp, children and their families will travel to the museum where they will have an engaging gallery visit with the MFAH Teaching Artist and other educators and visit the works of art studied over the past week. The group will be part of an interactive looking experience with an array of works of art that we will explore together. In the studio, everyone can enjoy an animated short film based on a children’s book and creating their own art project. Snacks will be provided on this last day of the camp.

The program is open to children ages 7 to 12 years old.

Registration for the MFAH Art Camp will start on July 7th and last until the end of the day on July 21st. Applications will be available for pickup at the High Meadows Library.
