AARP Tax Aide will once again be available at the Fairbanks Branch Library.  This service will be available  Mondays from 11 am to 3 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 2 pm.  Service Begins: Monday, February 2, 2025 – Ends: Monday, April 13, 2025.  No Service on Saturday, April 4 due to Easter Holiday.

This program is free and available to the public.  You do NOT have to be a member of AARP, nor are there income or age limits on who can use this free service.

Appointments will be made in person by signing up on the AARP appointment sheet. Appointments will be no more than 1 hour in length. On Mondays, the official appointment sheet will be posted by library staff at 9:00 am and on Saturdays, the official appointment sheet will be posted at 8:30 am.Sign-up sheets NOT created by an AARP volunteer will not be honored A stand-by list will be available, but you will need to stay near the site.

Important Documents to Bring

Last year’s tax return(s) and records of federal taxes paid Social Security cards or other ITIN notices/cards or other official documentation that show the taxpayer identification numbers for every individual on your return. Gov’t issued photo I.D. for each taxpayer signing a return. Checking/Savings Acct info if you want to direct deposit any refund(s). W-2 from each employer SSA Forms 1099, 1099R, 1099G, and other 1099 forms, brokerage statements, self-employment records and other information about other forms of income. Other Expenses - Mortgage interest, medical/dental expenses, charitable donations, sales, income or property taxes Any IRS Correspondence Educational Expenses - Form 1098T, students detailed financial school account, other educational expenses. Healthcare - Forms 1095 A, B, or C. NEW TAX LAW ITEMS: 
If any of the items below apply to your return, tell the AARP receptionist or the counselor preparing your return. We will need additional information to complete your return.
Paid Interest on a New Car Purchased in 2025, bring the statement showing interest paid from the lender. Tips: If you received tips from your job or self-employment, bring W-2s or other documentation showing the tip amounts. Social Security Lump Sum Distribution: Lump sum distributions are taxable. Bring SSA-1099 along with any applicable prior year's tax returns to determine the best way to compute tax. Overtime Pay: If you received OT pay, bring employer documentation or other documentation to provide the amount of applicable OT.
