The National African American Read-In is the nation’s first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants around the world.

Young Audiences of Houston Presents: African Rhythms and Spirituals with Joseph Dixon
This performance is inspired by two of the oldest forms of communication—the drum and the human voice. It explores the origins and history of African percussion and Spirituals from Americans of African descent. Students learn about traditional African drums such as the Djembe, Ashiko, and Dun Dun, as well as the Congolese Tumbadora.
Wow That's STEM youth group presents "Love Launchers". Students will design and launch Valentine-themed straw rockets while exploring how air pressure and force make them fly. They’ll test and improve their designs in a fun mix of creativity and engineering. For Ages 8-12.
In celebration of Black History Month, Tommy Terrific’ s Wacky Magic presents a fun and engaging magic show inspired by the life of Satchel Paige and the legacy of Negro League Baseball.
Filled with baseball-themed magic tricks and storytelling, the show explores Satchel Paige’s extraordinary journey — from his all-star touring performances and record-setting career in the Negro Leagues to his historic induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame as the oldest rookie and oldest player in Major League Baseball.
