This beginner friendly lesson will introduce participants to cross-stitching, which is a form of counted-thread embroidery using X-shaped stitches to create a pattern.
This program is limited to attendees age 5 and up. Children under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Join us at the library for the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion's Instrument Petting Zoo, powered by Ovintiv. During the program kids will have the chance to get up close and personal with the musical instruments they see professionally played on stage. Various instruments, including ukeleles, violins and drums are set up for the kids to touch, hold and play. We will start with a 30-minute reading featuring Classical Sing Move Play-an interactive story time opportunity performed by a trained Houston Grand Opera artist!
Youth grades 2nd-12th are welcome to come learn chess from teen volunteers at the library! Join Andy and friends as they walk you through moves that will get you started and improve your game. This program is for beginner and intermediate players.

Come sing, dance, jump, and listen to wonderful stories with other pre-school-aged kids every Thursday morning at Parker Williams Library
There will be a brief lesson for beginners at the beginning of the session. Each class go over the following:
- How each chess pieces move
- Chess rules
- Review how to use a chess clock
- How to use notation
- How to set up the chess board
- Discuss special moves
- Describe check and checkmate
- Review chess principals
- Cover minor tactics
- Discuss end game principals
- Then members will get a chance to play each other

With the help of the Magician's Handbook, the kids guide Tommy Terrific through a magical adventure where the world of dinosaurs come alive in wacky and unexpected ways. From the T-Rex to the Triceratops and beyond, the kids will uncover exciting facts about Dinosaurs and the Age in which they lived. Kids 5-12 years old.
