Books & Banter is a monthly book club that usually meets at the end of each month to explore books that celebrate and honor the richness of different cultures, movements and milestones. From the inspiring stories of Black History Month and the trailblazing women we recognize during Woman’s History Month to Disability Pride Month and more. Our club delves into diverse perspectives and voices that have shaped the world we live in. With each book we aim to spark meaningful conversations, reflect on history and the joys and struggles of the human experience.
Pattie Patty loves to dance ballet. But can a duck even dance? What will it take to become a beautiful ballerina? Will she ever be a graceful ballerina? Will she ever be happy with who she is? Pattie Patty is a duck who wants more than anything to be a beautiful ballerina and learns what true friendship is along the way. Books Alive! adds the music, with illustration inspired costumes and sets, to bring just the right touch to this zany tale that celebrates never giving up your dreams.
Join us for a creative writing workshop where we will be doing exercises and prompts designed to examine the meaning of liberty in all our lives and the power of having a voice. We will then share our writing and do a collaborative poem about freedom. Copies will be made so we can take our collaborative poem home.
It will take place in the library conference room. We look forward to seeing you there!
Join us in the library conference room to ease into art by creating a Juneteenth art piece by painting a background using the Pam-African colors of red, black, green, and yellow with a silhouette of a woman with arms raised—representing freedom and strength topped with rolled book pages to decorate her dress.
Registration is required and it is for ages 18 & up.
