This program is recommended for babies aged 0-18 months, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. It includes age-appropriate stories, rhymes, bounces, and songs that lay the foundation for reading. Children will also develop sensory, fine motor, and social skills through playtime.

Adults – we welcome you to join us in the downstairs Meeting Room on Thursday, October 01 at 10:00 AM to the Next Chapter’s first presentation in partnership with the Houston Voting Initiative. We're looking forward to kicking off with the Houston Voting Initiative Movie Series with a special movie screening of On the Basis of Sex (2018) [PG-13], a biopic of young Ruth Bader Ginsberg, followed by a discussion led by our presenters.

This program is recommended for children 18 months to 3 years old and their parents or caregivers. It features books, songs, fingerplays, music, and movement.

Tickets are required for all programs unless otherwise noted. They are free and available when the library opens at 10:00 am in the Children's Department. Tickets are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Lines for the tickets sometimes form before the tickets are distributed. Tickets can run out very quickly, so please plan accordingly.

HCPL has partnered with Oldways to present classes on how to eat healthy by following a traditional Latin American diet!

This program will feature two dishes rich in herbs, spices, and tubers. Those dishes are:

Wild Veggie TostadasPanama Fruit Smoothie

Library staff will give a presentation on the dishes and prepare them for everyone to share! 

This event will be held in the 1st floor Meeting Room.

A new teen and young adult book club is forming at Freeman Library! Join us as we discuss enjoyable reads from the Young Adult collection! Liminal Pages will meet on selected Tuesdays at 5 PM in the Teen Zone Program Space on the second floor. Refreshments will be served.

This month’s book is The Naturals, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
