Hey Family Movie Night Friends! This month's movie, The Pagemaster (1994), takes us to a magical library where the books come to life to tell their stories! In honor of the Gulf Coast Reads Annual Reading Initiative book, the Librarians by Sherry Thomas.

Movie synopsis: A cowardly boy, Richard Tyler (Macaulay Culkin), enters a library to escape a storm, only to be transformed into an animated illustration by the Pagemaster. He has to work through obstacles from classic books to return to real-life.

This all ages event celebrates everything Pokemon! Trade cards, learn to play, or bring your handheld to show off what Pokemon you've caught.

Art projects for children ages 3-6 years old. Painting can get a little messy, so come prepared! We recommend bringing an apron or wearing clothes that can get paint on them. 

In order to ensure the safety of our youngest patrons, this is a ticketed program. Free tickets are available 30 minutes before the program starts. First come, first served.

Join us for Toddler Story Time, an early literacy program where we share stories, songs, and rhymes! This program is for children ages 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers. 

Book Buddies is a free program that brings children and teen volunteers together to share the joy of reading. It pairs trained volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week in the afternoon for 45 minutes of one-on-one shared reading.

The Fall cycle of Book Buddies will run from September 17th to November 19th.  Reading sessions will be in the library meeting room.

Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies is a FREE literacy program that pairs trained teen volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in K-3rd grade (Little Buddies) for 10 weeks to share the joy of reading. More information can be found on our website.

The next session for the South Houston Branch Library will run from September 8 - November 10, 2026. The Buddies will meet on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM.
