Visit the Highlands Stratford Branch Library on Saturday, June 7, 2025 and help us celebrate the 100th birthday of former First Lady Barbara Bush. Mrs. Bush was a champion of literacy efforts and served as honorary chairwoman of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. In honor of her birthday, pick up a summer vacation journal kit to make in the library or to take home. Kits are available while supplies last. Recommended for ages 5 & up.

South Houston Branch Library is having a special storytime visit with Red from Red Robin! Join us for an afternoon of stories, songs, and lots of fun with our special guest. Fun for the whole family!
Pirates’ Treasure Island On this swashbuckling Minecraft adventure, kids join their pirate crew to team up. We’ll see which group of young pirates can find the most treasure while exploring sailing ships, the harbor village, and a massive island. It’s a thrill-seeking 1.5-hour event for kids ages 8-12.

To honor this occasion, we will have special craft kits available at the service desk. Each take-home kit makes one reading themed beaded bracelet. Express Children's Theatre presents An Art Class for Kids With Frida Kahlo, commissioned by Rothko Chapel.
Thanks to a time-bending twist, the iconic artist Frida Kahlo will travel from 1940s Mexico to lead an art class for Houston families! Materials will include crayons and colored pencils and everyone will get a chance to make self-portraits and learn about Frida in the process. Great for all ages!
