Do you need to earn some volunteer hours this summer? As a VolunTEEN, you'll commit to spending two hours each this semester week shelving materials, shelf reading the collection, preparing simple crafts, and performing various other tasks.
Primary Responsibilities: VolunTEENs are expected to shelve materials, assist with programs, shelf-read the collection, prepare simple crafts, process discards, set up displays and exhibits, plus assist with clerical tasks as needed.
Qualifications: Must be 13 to 18 years old. Must be able to file alphabetically. Must be able to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions with a minimum of direction. Applicants should be capable of bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting boxes weighting up to 20 pounds and pushing fully loaded book carts weighing up to 40 pounds. All HCPL programs and services are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliant. Accommodations can be requested by contacting the library in advance.
Training: Applicants must attend the one-hour MANDATORY orientation on Saturday, May 31 at 1 PM. Applicants that miss the MANDATORY orientation will not be permitted to volunteer. Applicants are tested for their ability to file alphabetically and their dexterity with cutting. The VolunTEEN Coordinator will train new VolunTEENs during their first shift.
Time Commitment: VolunTEENs are assigned a two-hour shift each week from June 2 through August 1. VolunTEENs are expected to earn a minimum of 15 hours and attend the majority of their assigned shifts in order to receive recognition at the end of the volunteer session.

- Friday, May 23rd at 5 PM: Application due date. Late applications are not accepted.
- Saturday, May 31st 1 PM: Date and time of the MANDATORY orientation.
- June 2 - August 1: Summer VolunTEEN session.
