There will be a brief lesson for beginners at the beginning of the session. Each class go over the following:

  1. How each chess pieces move
  2. Chess rules
  3. Review how to use a chess clock
  4. How to use notation
  5. How to set up the chess board
  6. Discuss special moves
  7. Describe check and checkmate
  8. Review chess principals
  9. Cover minor tactics
  10. Discuss end game principals
  11. Then members will get a chance to play each other

**Ages 9-17 ONLY & FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE**

Get Creative with Cricut! This orientation session will introduce participants to Cricut machine capabilities, operation, and use. Completion of this orientation session is mandatory before patrons can schedule time to use the Cricut at Harris County Public Library.

Adults – the Next Chapter Monday Matinee continues Monday, June 22 at 2:00 PM in our upstairs Innovation Lab Classroom. We look forward to seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark, the 1981 action-adventure movie set in 1936 which introduced Indiana Jones. This film stars Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Paul Freeman, Wolf Kahler, and Ronald Lacey. Rated PG, Raiders of the Lost Ark lasts 1 hour, 55 minutes and includes Closed Captions.

The Next Chapter Classics Revisited continues Thursday, June 18 at 10:15 AM in our downstairs Meeting Room. We look forward to showing Juno, the 2007quirky coming-of-age comedy. This film stars Elliot Page (as Ellen Page), Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Olivia Thirlby, and Allison Janney. Rated PG-13, Juno lasts 1 hour, 35 minutes. This film includes Closed Captions.

Whether you've never touched a tile in your life or you've played all kinds of versions, come play American Mah-jongg with us! There will be a table for complete beginners and there will be a table for open play. If you already have a set and you just want to play with people, there will be open tables to play on. All supplies and snacks will be provided.

Bring in your gently used puzzles and exchange them for new-to-you puzzles!

Please limit puzzles to 15 per person and no puzzles with missing pieces.

The downstairs Meeting room will open at 3PM...the first few minutes will be the puzzle browse.

Anyone that brings in a 500+ piece puzzle can participate in the swap.

You will receive 1 ticket for each puzzle that you bring to trade for a new(ish) puzzle.

Any leftover puzzles will be donated to the Friends of the Library-Kingwood.

It's the first day of Summer Reading and we're so excited we're throwing a party! Come to the library and register the whole family for SRP (you, too, adults!) and enjoy some fun crafts while you do it. We just can't wait to get started and we hope you join us.

Please note that parents must register their children for the SRP program, therefore parents are required at this event.
