A.M.I.G.O.S. (Amigos Meeting Intended Goals of South Houston) Friends of the South Houston Library is a nonprofit 501 c3 volunteer group that meets once a month. If you are ready to make a difference and help them raise funds for programs such as the Summer Reading Program, after-school programs, and cultural programming and activities, we invite you to join them!

Excavate some excitement this summer at this weekly arts and crafts program! Each week we'll create a new work of art and learn about archaeology, dinosaurs, and history along the way. 

This program is designed for tweens and teens ages 12 to 18.

Registration is not required, but supplies and space may be limited.

Get creative this summer at the library! Join us for a fun-filled arts and crafts program led by the wonderful mother & daughter volunteers from the National Charity League. Children will enjoy hands-on projects, creativity, and summer fun in this program designed especially for elementary school-aged kids. All supplies provided.  No registration required.  This program is for children ages 5-11 years old.

When you discover a mysterious suitcase filled with expedition tools, you’ll use your imagination and senses to search for dinosaur fossils! Journey through the jungle, dig for bones at an excavation site, rescue dinosaurs from tar pits, and collect dino eggs—just be careful of the earth-shaking volcano! Presented by Brave Little Company.

Step into a world of creativity inspired by fossils, gemstones, and ancient discoveries. Crafts on the Rocks is a hands-on summer series where participants will create unique, geology-, paleontology-, and archaeology-themed projects while enjoying refreshing mocktails.

Each session explores a different craft, from wearable art to decorative creations, all designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

This program is geared toward adults, but supervised participants ages 10 and up are welcome to join us for coloring at the same time.

There will be a brief lesson for beginners at the beginning of the session. Each class go over the following:

  1. How each chess pieces move
  2. Chess rules
  3. Review how to use a chess clock
  4. How to use notation
  5. How to set up the chess board
  6. Discuss special moves
  7. Describe check and checkmate
  8. Review chess principals
  9. Cover minor tactics
  10. Discuss end game principals
  11. Then members will get a chance to play each other
