Event Title
Sewing Simply for Beginners!

We’re going to be covering many new skills that build on each other each lesson.

Don’t worry if you didn’t make things perfect- each mistake is a perfect opportunity to learn, grow, and improve. Beginning Sewing: As a beginner seamstress you’ll first learn the foundational skills for machine and hand sewing. We’ll cover how to properly use, thread, and take care of your specific machine, as well as how other machines work. You’ll learn and practice all the basics like stitch consistency, pivoting, and backstitching. Each project will teach you something new like making a proper channel and weaving something through it, making a buttonhole and hand stitching the button, ensuring a sharp corner every time when turning something right side out, getting those seams to always match perfectly on pieced projects, as well as the secret behind a clean, finished look! Once you’ve completed these beginner projects there will be sew many things you can make- it’s time to get creative!

Please remember that children ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.

These are the projects we'll be making:

Beginning Projects
Pin Cushion
You’ll be making a heart shaped pin cushion to learn stitch consistency when sewing straight, around a curve, pivoting, and a fell stitch by hand.
Drawstring bag
You’ll be making the drawstring bag in order to learn to topstitch, make a channel, string a ribbon through, and turn a sharp corner right side out.

Those are the basics, now let's get to perfecting them!

Pillowcase You’ll learn to add a band to the pillow case, topstitch in the round, as well as get more practice in pivoting and keeping those corners consistently sharp.
Apron
You’ll learn to work with bias tape, make a buttonhole, handstitch a button, and get more practice with channeling.
Pieced Potholder
You’ll learn to get seams to match each time, how to keep everything squared, stitch in the ditch, and get more practice with corners.
Circle Finger Mitt
Similar to the potholder, but with curves and layers!
Lined Tote Bag
You’ll learn how to get a clean finish by inserting a lining, how to properly attach straps, top stitch, and create a base for your bag.
Hand Sewn Owl Pin Cushion
You’ll be learning to perfect several different hand stitches as well as more practice sewing buttons, working with straight and curved lines, as well as learning to attach a base by hand.

I'll be supplying the fabric for the first two projects, and then I'd give them a note with what they need for the next projects. Each project is designed to be finished in about or under an hour.

Don't forget to bring:
•Your machine (and it's cords and pedal)
•Your threads (color of your choice)
•Sewing shears (sharp scissors will do)
•Seam Ripper (this is a must have)
