Explore the game of chess by learning about openings, endgames, strategies, and tactics. This class is designed for children ages 5 and up, accommodating both beginners and advanced players.
Free tickets will be distributed 30 minutes before the program at the Children's Reference Desk.

Join us for our Tween Book Club! We will discuss the book of the month, have snacks, and enjoy book related activities. This month we will be reading "The Dragon Warrior" by Katie Zhao.
On Friday, November 6th, we will discuss chapters 1-14.
On Friday, November 20th, we will discuss the rest of the book.
This book club is intended for children ages 8-12. Online registration is required; space is limited.
Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies is a FREE literacy program that pairs trained teen volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in K-3rd grade (Little Buddies) for 10 weeks to share the joy of reading. More information can be found on our website.
The next session for the South Houston Branch Library will run from September 8 - November 10, 2026. The Buddies will meet on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM.

Celebrate the charm of a classic winter day during this nostalgic, family-friendly event inspired by Peanuts. Think Charlie Brown's winter blues, Snoopy's cozy doghouse, Linus's warm blanket, old-fashioned games, handmade crafts, giveaways, raffles, and plenty of fun for all ages! This is a drop-in event for children, families, teens, and nostalgic adults!
If your student is struggling with math or has a simple question, come see Ms. Patricia for some one-on-one help! Each student should bring a homework or school work that they need help with. This program is for students in 4th to 12th grade. Registration is online, but walk-ins may be accepted.
