This will be a ticketed program. To enter the program, you must have a ticket!
Pick up your ticket at the front desk. Tickets are free and available at 3:30, an hour before the program starts. Tickets are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so please plan accordingly.
Come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a fun, hands-on craft! Create and decorate your very own mini piñata to take home. All supplies will be provided. This program is for ages 5-17.
Teens
This orientation session is intended for teen volunteers and a completed, intact, and ready application packet is required to be admitted to the orientation.
To apply to be a teen volunteer at the HCPL-West University Branch Library, applicants must:
complete a printed copy of the application packet, ( LINK TO APPLICATION PACKET HERE )be between the ages of 15-18, have their guardian’s permission, attend one orientation session.
Join the Evelyn Meador Library for a hilarious gaming experience, Jackbox Games! Have fun with friends and compete to see who will be the winner.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices to play the game. For teens in grades 6-12.
Teens in grades 6-12 can create a trinket dishes, a tray that are meant to hold everyday items like rings, keys, and coins.
Trinket dishes will be made from air dry clay and be decorated with supplies such as paint, rhinestones, and other crafting supplies so please be mindful about potential messes.
Community Health & Wellness Services provided by Harris County Public Health at the Fairbanks Branch Library. Come visit the Mobile Dental Clinic for:
First visits include a dental screening.
Follow-up visits may include a dental cleaning or basic treatment.

This service is available from 8 am -3 pm each Monday with a lunch from 12-1.

Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies is a FREE literacy program that pairs trained teen volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in K-3rd grade (Little Buddies) for 10 weeks to share the joy of reading. More information can be found on our website.
The next session for the South Houston Branch Library will run from September 8 - November 10, 2026. The Buddies will meet on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM.
