This performance is inspired by two of the oldest forms of communication—the drum and the human voice. It explores the origins and history of African percussion and Spirituals from Americans of African descent. Students learn about traditional African drums such as the Djembe, Ashiko, and Dun Dun, as well as the Congolese Tumbadora.
Come explore the history and meanings behind Spirituals; learn how rivers, locomotives, and the Big Dipper symbolized freedom! Get hands on experience creating rhythms representing the life cycle of a river.
Learn how to make tiny jelly soaps by using the Vacuum Former to create unique plastic molds.
Space is limited and registration is required. This program is for Adults only and will meet in the Meeting Room.
