We look forward to visiting the historic buildings in Columbus, Texas and dining at Schobels Restaurant, also in Columbus.
Columbus Historical Preservation Trust (CHPT) (425 Spring St. Columbus, TX 78943)
The Columbus Historical Preservation Trust (CHPT) is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to promoting Columbus’ rich and colorful history through the preservation of four historic properties.
On this excursion, we will visit the Colorado County Courthouse as well as the following properties:

*Visiting the CHPT costs trip goers nothing as the Friends of Freeman Library will be paying for our tour. Yet, trip goers are responsible for paying for anything they choose to purchase as a souvenir.
**Unfortunately, none of the buses with the wheelchair/scooter lift are available for this excursion. We cannot accommodate trip goers needing to use wheelchairs or scooters.
Schobels Restaurant (2020 Milam St/ Columbus, TX 78943)
Schobels is a long-standing restaurant offering hearty American plates & a buffet in a country-style dining room. This restaurant also provides vegetarian options.
Trip goers are responsible for paying for their own meals. Click here to see their menu. Call restaurant at (979) 732-2385 for meal prices as they are subject to change.
***As this particular excursion is almost 100 miles from Freeman Library, please plan for a full day. We should be back at the library before sunset.

Our Registration Policy
Registration is required! Anyone who is at least 55 years of age may call 832-927-5420 and ask for the Adult Services/Reference Department to register during library business hours - Wednesday, April 22 at 10 AM through Saturday, April 25 at 5 PM.Email registration NOT accepted.Please notify library staff at the time of registration if language translation service is necessary.You may choose to register with one companion (aged 55 or better) to accompany you on the trip.If you register someone besides yourself, you must provide all the trip buddy's information. Your trip buddy cannot be registered without important contact information. Email address provided must be one per household.The registration period closes at the end of business Saturday, April 25 (5 pm). If necessary, names will be chosen at random the week following the close of the registration period.People not chosen in our drawing will be put on a waiting list.Participants in this Senior Adult Trips Program are responsible for paying for their own meals AND any items at they may choose to purchase at other points on the trip.Trip goers are advised to wear comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking.This trip will depart from and return to the Harris County Public Library - Freeman Branch front porch.Participants must remain with the group while on the trip itself.Participants cannot remain on the bus while at CHPT sites or at Schobel's. No food or drink (except water) can be consumed on the bus.The only drink allowed on the bus is water. Trip itinerary can only be modified by trip directors.This trip is subject to changes and/or cancellation.Trip Goer Cancellation must be made by 1 PM Tuesday, May 20 to remain in good standing with our Senior Adult Trip program.
