Hey Family Movie Night Friends! This month's movie, The Pagemaster (1994), takes us to a magical library where the books come to life to tell their stories! In honor of the Gulf Coast Reads Annual Reading Initiative book, the Librarians by Sherry Thomas.

Movie synopsis: A cowardly boy, Richard Tyler (Macaulay Culkin), enters a library to escape a storm, only to be transformed into an animated illustration by the Pagemaster. He has to work through obstacles from classic books to return to real-life.

Gulf Coast Reads is a regional initiative that encourages communities on the Texas Gulf Coast to read the same book and come together for meaningful discussions throughout October.

Do you struggle with making friends or socializing? Do you love games?

Join us as we play card and board games while we mingle! It's okay if you don't know how to play the game, truth be told, we're still learning too! Don't worry, making mistakes is also part of the process. We'll be having tons of fun so don't miss out! Light refreshments will be provided. 

If you have a board game you'd like to bring, we would love that too!

Celebrate spooky season and test your wits at Freeman’s first ever escape room!

Coinciding with this year’s Gulf Coast Reads pick, The Librarians by Sherry Thomas, this escape room is themed around an abandoned library found in a mysterious house left to you through an inheritance. 

You’ll have 90 minutes to complete the room with a group maximum of 4 people.

Attendees under the age of 12 must have an adult in their group.

Booked This Afternoon meets in person on the second Thursday of the month, October 8, at 2 PM. This month we will be discussing The Librarians by Sherry Thomas.

Join us on 2nd Tuesdays for the Afternoon Book Club, a self-run club of readers! If you enjoy sampling a wide range of authors and genres, this is the book club for you!

Some copies are available downstairs at the Reference Desk and at each meeting, but each member is responsible for obtaining their own copy. Please check out our catalog to request a book!
