Meet the Astros’ beloved mascot, Orbit, snap a photo with him, and take part in activities that celebrate the joy of reading and learning.

Celebrate America 250 and help us wrap up the 2026 Summer Reading Program with an evening full of old-fashioned fun for the whole family! Step back in time and experience a taste of colonial America with hands-on activities, sweet treats, and historic games everyone can enjoy together.
Create your own custom trinket dish at the library using air-dry clay! Shape, mold, and decorate a small dish perfect for holding jewelry, coins, or other small treasures.

Whether you love bold swirls, classic stripes, or star-inspired designs, this is the perfect way to celebrate summer and show off your creative side.
Join us for our 3D Printer Orientation!
This orientation session will introduce participants to 3D printing services in the library. Those who complete the class will then be able to request time to use a 3D printer at HCPL branches, at which time they will complete a short machine-specific orientation at the location of their choice. Attending this orientation is mandatory before patrons can request time to use a 3D printer.
