Join the Teen Advisory Committee (TAC): Lead, Serve, and Create!

Are you a teen in grades 7–12 looking to make a real impact in your community? The West University Branch Library is seeking motivated young leaders to join the Teen Advisory Committee (TAC). As a formal body of teen advocates, the TAC bridges the gap between Harris County youth, community, and library administration through service, advocacy, and leadership.

Why Join TAC?

Becoming a member is more than just joining a club; it is a professional leadership position that offers significant benefits for your future that may include:

Earn Volunteer Hours: Receive official service hours for attending monthly meetings and assisting with library initiatives

Develop Core Skills: Build a competitive resume by gaining experience in project management, public speaking, and strategic planning.

Exclusive Perks: Get "first dibs" on new Young Adult (YA) books and Manga arrivals, and receive a formal Letter of Recommendation upon successful completion of your term

Real Influence: Manage a "micro-budget" to choose committee snacks or décor and help curate the library’s collection

What You’ll Do

As a TAC member, you are a civic consultant for the library. Your responsibilities may include:

Event Planning: Brainstorming and hosting events like gaming tournaments, craft workshops, or "Comic-Con" task forces

Advocacy: Suggesting new Manga or YA titles and ensuring teen spaces meet the needs of your peers.

Outreach: Creating promotional content for social media and coordinating with local school clubs.

How to Apply

Ready to lead? Interested students must submit a formal membership application and complete a brief orientation interview with the Staff Liaison, Mike.
